Kern River Valley
Camping Guide

42 miles northeast of Bakersfield along Highway 178 and Old Kern Canyon Rd. Paved road, along the Kern River, 35 family units, toilets, water. Located on the southern end of Isabella Lake off of Highway 155.  Paved road, 82 family units, trailers up to 45 feet.  Restrooms, one flush, water, fire rings, tables and grills.  No showers.  RV dump station. Open May thru September. Located on the southern end of Isabella Lake off of Highway 155. Paved road, 78 family units, trailers up to 30 feet. Restrooms, four flush type with showers, water, fire rings, tables and grills. playground, fish cleaning station. Open year round. Located off Highway 155 on the west side of Isabella Lake. Paved road, a group use area for 100 people maximum. Suitable for RV's.  Restrooms - one flush type with showers. Water; large fire ring; tables and grills; sheltered area. Open year round. Located off Highway 155 on the west side of Isabella Lake. Paved road; 78 family units; trailers up to 30 feet. Three flush type restrooms with showers. Water; fire rings; tables and grills; playground. Open April to September.
The following non-developed day use areas are normally closed to camping:
Engineer Point,
Paradise Cove (along the beach area below campground),
Boulder Gulch (along beach, north and south of campground), Kissack Cove,
and Rich Gulch (between French Gulch day use and Boulder Gulch).
Authorization is granted to allow overnight camping in these areas,
between 06:00AM Thursday, March 13 and 6:00 PM on Monday, March 18th.
The Holder must ensure that all participants are informed
that this agreement is in effect only for Derby Days.
The Forest Service will post informational signs
(located at Paradise Cove, Engineer Point, Boulder Gulch, and Kissack Cove)
on Wednesday, February 27 and remove them on Monday, March 17.
